Becoming CommonSpirit Health

A legacy of care. A new name to carry it forward.

Saint Joseph Health recently announced that its hospitals, clinics and care sites throughout Kentucky will begin using the CommonSpirit Health name in July 2026. It is important for patients to know that this change will not affect their care, their physicians, their nurses or the services received at any of the locations.

Though we are changing our name now, we have been part of CommonSpirit Health, a non-profit Catholic health system, since 2019. We remain rooted in the community, but are connected across the country.

Our facilities will adopt the CommonSpirit brand while adding or maintaining the “Saint Joseph" name that Kentucky communities have embraced for generations. 

New hospital and care site names include:

  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Hospital – Bardstown 
  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Hospital – Berea
  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Hospital - Lexington
  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Medical Center - East Lexington
  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Hospital – London
  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Hospital – Mt Sterling
  • CommonSpirit - Continuing Care Hospital – Lexington
  • CommonSpirit - Saint Joseph Foundations

We have been part of CommonSpirit Health since 2019. As a patient, it is important to know that the name change will not affect your care, the physicians and nurses who deliver your care or the services you receive at any of our locations.

No. Your care teams remain the same. You will continue to see the same physicians and nurses  you know and trust.  

As we work through this transition, you are likely to see both the CHI St. Joesph and CommonSpirit names, logos and branding for a period of time. Please know that any bill you receive reflects care you received from your current provider regardless of which name/logo appears on the bill and you should remit payment as usual.

Yes. CommonSpirit Health is a non-profit Catholic health system. As CommonSpirit Health, we make the healing presence of God known in our world by improving the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.

The shared CommonSpirit name reflects our identity as one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health care organizations. 

Importantly, our patients benefit from the  clinical practices, advanced therapies, economies of scale  and other resources of our  national network.CommonSpirit encompasses  more than 2,300 clinics, 137 hospital-based locations and home-based and virtual care services.
